The Benefits of Yoga Exercises for People with Disabilities

The Benefits of Disability Yoga Exercises for People with Disabilities

Most people think of yoga as a way to improve flexibility and strengthen muscles. For able-bodied individuals, this is certainly true. But what about people living with disabilities?

Yoga can also offer many benefits for those with disabilities, including improved strength, flexibility, and balance. It goes without saying, regular yoga classes may result in significant improvements in their quality of life. While some people with disabilities may find it difficult to participate in group classes, personal training sessions can be designed specifically to meet their needs. Personal Trainers can also provide modifications and adaptations to make sure that the yoga poses are safe and comfortable for their clients.

Fit Your Ability, a division of Fitness Enhancement, has NDIS-registered Personal Trainer that are passionate about helping persons with disabilities achieve the best version of themselves. We are registered for seven core or capacity-building line items such as Assistance With Daily Personal Activities, Development Of Daily Care And Life Skills, Household Tasks, Participation In Community, Social And Civic Activities, Group And Centre-Based Activities, Exercise Physiology, And Personal Training, and Innovative Community Participation, so we can help more people living with a disability achieve their goals. What this means is even if you don’t have personal training on your NDIS, we may still be able to help you.

Let’s take a closer look at how yoga can help people with disability live their best lives:

Improved Strength and Flexibility

One of the main benefits of yoga is improved strength and flexibility. This is especially beneficial for those people living with disabilities, who may have difficulty getting regular exercise or may be limited in their range of motion. By practicing yoga regularly, they can gradually increase their strength and flexibility, leading to overall improvements in their quality of life.

Improved Balance

Another important benefit of yoga is improved balance. This is again especially beneficial for them, who may have difficulty maintaining their balance due to their disability. By practicing yoga regularly, they can gradually improve their balance, which can lead to fewer falls and injuries. Additionally, improving one’s balance can also help to improve one’s overall strength and flexibility.

As you can see, there are many benefits of yoga for people with disabilities. If you or someone you know is looking for a way to improve your strength, flexibility, and balance, then consider giving yoga a try.
