Wheelchair

Wheelchair

We can cater to your unique needs.

If you’re in a wheelchair, it can be daunting to find a wheelchair-accessible gym or fitness venue that caters to your unique needs. Most traditional gym equipment and gym floor layouts do not cater to wheelchair users, which can make exercise in a gym setting challenging. Fit Your Ability has wheelchair-accessible 100% private Personal Training studios and mobile Personal Trainers who can bring equipment to you wherever your preferred location is.

Manual wheelchair users have to heavily utilise chest and shoulder muscles to propel their chairs. This can cause muscle imbalance and tightness and make you more prone to injury. It is important to work your back muscles with exercises like rows and pulls to balance this out.

It’s also important to strengthen the smaller muscles around the shoulder in the rotator cuff and core. They can weaken from inactivity. Out Trainers find that resistance bands are helpful in this type of exercise, and how they can be positioned and used is highly customisable.

One of our favourite exercises for all our clients is boxing; it is great cardio, great stress relief, and can be done seated and targets the upper body. If you are in a wheelchair and would like some assistance with your fitness routine, let us know how we can help.

No matter what disability, Fit your Ability is the first step.
