Why It’s a Great Spot for People with Disabilities
The Tweed River Boardwalks are designed with accessibility and comfort in mind:
Wheelchair-Friendly Paths: Smooth, level surfaces make these boardwalks easy to navigate for people using mobility aids.
Scenic Viewing Areas: Accessible viewing platforms offer beautiful views of the river and surrounding bushland.
Rest Stops: Benches and shaded areas are placed throughout for convenient breaks.
Low-Stimulation Environment: The quiet, natural surroundings make it ideal for those who prefer calm, low-sensory spaces.

What to Expect When You Visit
There are two main accessible boardwalks to explore:
Walk on Water Walking Track
Located behind the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre, this 1 km loop weaves through eucalyptus forest and mangroves, passing a sacred bora ring. Along the way, you’ll find informative signage highlighting the area’s rich Aboriginal heritage.
Anchorage Boardwalk
A newer 245-metre boardwalk along the Terranora Creek foreshore. It’s built with non-slip materials and is wide enough for wheelchairs and mobility scooters—perfect for a safe and easy stroll close to town.
Both walks are ideal for solo outings, support worker trips, or light outdoor sessions with a trainer.
